Getting your Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
From your PPL, you can progress on to obtain your CPL. Marlborough Aero Club has trained many commercial pilots who now work in the aviation industry all over the world. As a small Club, gaining your CPL with us enables you to get one-on-one training and support throughout the course. With access to a fleet of different aircraft and the varying nature of the Marlborough area, gaining your CPL with us will give you a broad flying experience that will stand you in good stead for your future career. In addition to your PPL, a CPL allows you to:
- Legally earn income from your flying
- Advance to further employment prospects in your aviation career
- Take to your flying skills to a higher level
In order to obtain a CPL you must:
- Be at least 17 years of age.
- Hold a current Medical Certificate.
- Pass an examination in six subjects.
- Pass a flight test which will include all normal and emergency flight manoeuvres.
You must also complete at least 200 hours total flight time of which:
- 100 hours must be Pilot in Command.
- 15 hours must be dual instruction
- 15 hours must be solo flight time
- 5 hours must be instrument flight time
- 10 hours cross-country navigation training.
